Protest sabotaged, will return: Sreejith

A CBI probe was launched and the officials took a statement from him on Wednesday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sreejith, who was recently moved to the hospital, from the Secretariat, where he has been protesting for the last 782 days, stated that he would return and also alleged that several individuals were trying to sabotage his protest. He said that a fraternity that supported him had declared that his strike ended. “A section of people under the aegis of support for Sreejith core committee took money in my name,” he alleged.

All he needed was the help of good Samaritans and not an organistion to rally for him, he emphasised. The youth had become an internet sensation after his 782-day-long strike demanding justice for his brother who died while in the custody of Parassla police. A CBI probe was launched and the officials took a statement from him on Wednesday. In a Facebook live video on Saturday he said he had not declared that his strike had ended though fraternities that supported him had publicised that his strike had ended. “I was shifted to hospital due to deteriorating health but will soon return to protest, once I gain strength, until my brother gets justice,” he said.

Mysteriously, the flex boards he had put up were also removed. “The flexboard was an emotional issue for me,” he added. When nearby protestors tried to search for it, policemen allegedly scolded them. Sreejith had started the protest after his brother Sreejeev died in mysterious circumstances after being arrested by police for alleged mobile phone theft. Cops state that he consumed poison whereas his family alleges custodial torture.
