Probe has begun, action soon: O Panneerselvam
Chennai: While asserting that steps will be taken to remove the shops which are of hindrance to the devotees visiting the ancient Sri Meenakshi Sundareshwar temple in Madurai, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Saturday said a detailed probe has commenced into Friday midnight fire accident at the temple.
“Investigation has commenced and it is going on. Only at the end of it, the exact reason for the fire mishap will be known,” he told reporters here. “Action will be initiated on those found responsible for causing the fire accident,” Mr. Panneerselvam said and informed that the State government would take necessary steps to avert such incidents in the future.
State Hindu religious and charitable endowments minister Sevoor S. Ramachandran, who rushed to Madurai along with revenue minister R. B. Udayakumar, to obtain a first hand account of the incident, said claimed no damage has been caused to the temple structure due to the fire. Precautionary measures would be ensured to prevent such incidents he assured and added appropriate action would be taken upon the receipt of a detailed report by the Madurai district collector. To a question, he replied that architectural experts would be consulted before removing the shops.
