Chennai: In a major development in the Anna Thozhilalar Sanga Peravai, the trade union wing of the ruling AIADMK, its secretary R. Chinnasamy has been expelled from the post by Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami who are covenor and co-covenor of the party.
Chinnasamy has been relieved from his post with immediate effect. He has represented the Singanallur Assembly constituency in the past.
They have also announced to form a committee to take care of the trade union, till a new secretary is appointed. The committee will comprise of former MP, U. R. Krishnan, Anna Thozhir Sangam Peravai president Thadi M. Rasu and former secretary of the trade union, Sankaradas.
Both Mr. Palaniswami and Mr. Pannerselvam have called upon the members of the trade union to extend their full cooperation to the committee members and carry forward the works.
Although no reason has been officially given for the expulsion of Chinnasamy from the key post, sources claimed that the action has been taken due to the recent strike by transport employees.
It is said that the AIADMK high command is not happy with certain acts of Chinnasamy during the strike. Both OPS and EPS have been expelling several office-bearers from the party, for violating rules and regulations, since they merged their respective factions.
