Tamil Nadu: Govt doctors protest for various demands
Chennai: Over 1,000 government doctors from across the state came together in a protest on Directorate of Public and Rural Health Services (DMS) campus, on Friday, with five demands.
The five important agendas include abolishing of the National Eligibilty cum Entrance Test for both UG and PG, the Tamil Nadu Medical Entrance Examination should be conducted,50 per cent PG seats should be surrendered from private medical colleges, doctors must promoted from medical officers to either deputy director of health service or joint director of health service or additional director of health service.
“Also, as our salary is not equal to those in the Central Government. We request the Tamil Nadu government to ensure pay parity,” said Dr Kathirvel, state general secretary, Tamil Nadu Medical Offices Association.
They continued their protest through late Friday evening as they waited for the director of public health (DPH) to clear their agendas. “There are long pending agendas both from the state level as well as the district level. We had given a notification to the government on January 10 itself and requested the DPH to address our problems and to give us some solutions. We will continue the protest until he comes,” added Dr Kathirvel.
Director of public health Dr Kulandaisamy, who was returning from inspections at Tiruvallur and Ennore, promised to meet the protestors. “They are all our doctors and will surely meet. Their demands will be taken up systematically,” he said.
