Appearing for Neet 2017 to be counted as first attempt

The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for MBBS and BDS courses will be conducted on May 7.

Chennai: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday clarified that prior attempts made by candidates for AIPMT/Neet will not be counted and appearance in Neet 2017 will be counted as the first attempt for all candidates.
Earlier in its notification, the board has fixed the cap of three attempts for Neet. It has stated that the candidates who have already availed permissible three attempts will not be able to apply for Neet 2017.

Many students who are preparing for the common medical entrance test petitioned to the Central government saying the clause had made them ineligible to apply for Neet.

Department of health and family welfare have sought a clarification with the Medical Council of India. In its clarification MCI said that the attempts made by candidates for AIPMT/Neet prior to 2017 should not be counted.

Accordingly, CBSE has notified that Neet-2017 will be counted as the first attempt for all the candidates, irrespective of their previous attempts in AIPMT/Neet.

The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for MBBS and BDS courses will be conducted on May 7. This year in all the seats of MBBS/BDS courses, the admission will be made through Neet 2017. Candidates can apply for the exam until March 1.

The exam will be conducted across 80 cities in the country and more than 10 lakh students are expected to take the common medical entrance exam.
