Feel-good feeling is must for students, says V-C Veeraiah
Nellore: Inaugurating the State-level National Service Scheme (NSS) Youth Festival at the Town Hall here on Wednesday,Vice Chancellor of Vikram Simhapuri University, Prof. V. Veeraih, said that this was an apt occasion for students to remind themselves have to feel-good feeling towards one another and contribute to the betterment of society.
He led a procession with all the student participants up to the statue of Ambedkar at the V.R. College Centre prior to the inauguration.
Prof. P.R. Sivasankar, registrar of the university, said that the feeling of nationalism was an immediate need for the nation's growth. As for individual growth, youth was a promising stage in everyone's life and performing arts were a way to nourish one's talents.
The event was indeed a vibrant showcasing of talent. Teams from 16 universities in Andhra participated in 14 different cultural events identified by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Gover-nment of India.
Students competed in eight events on the first day, such as, elocution, essay and patriotic poem writing, music (instrumental and vocal) and dance, with the best performers' names to be announced on Thursday, the concluding day of the festival.
Dr. P. Ramachandra Rao, state liaison officer, NSS, recalled the efforts of the University NSS Cell in organizing blood donation camps where significant social problems were also addressed.
Prof. P. Venkata Rao, Principal, VSU College, exhorted the youth to treat art and culture as a way of bringing about national integrity.
Dr.K.Ramesh Reddy, NSS coordinator, set out the objectives of the youth festival.
