Cabbie on phone hits divider, 1 killed

When the driver took out his mobile phone and started talking he lost control. The cab veered towards the extreme right and hit the divider

Hyderabad: A cab driver, who was talking on the phone while driving, crashed his car on Outer Ring Road on Wednesday. One person was killed and two others including the driver where injured when the speeding car rammed into a road divider at Kothwalguda.

The 48-year-old victim, G. Sagar, a mason from Film Nagar, succumbed a few hours after he suffered a serious head injury. The driver, N. Venkatesh, and a carpenter, whose name is also Venkatesh, escaped with injuries as they were wearing seatbelts. The police booked a case against the driver for negligence.
Shamshabad police said the mishap occurred at around 8 am on the ORR bridge at Kothwalguda.

“The car was coming from Shamshabad and was going to Gachibowli. When the driver took out his mobile phone and started talking he lost control and crashed,” said SI Hari Prasad. The cab veered towards extreme right and hit the road divider, he added. One side of the car was completely damaged in the crash. Passersby called the police and emergency services to remove the injured victims.

Sagar and Venkatesh had gone for some construction work at Kothur and were returning. They had hired a cab to return to Film Nagar, police said.
