Bengaluru may get commuter rail soon

Train will not connect nearby cities with city railway station as proposed earlier.

BENGALURU: The two-decade long proposal of commuter rail for the city, which could held decongest the city roads, may become reality soon. According to the Bengaluru Development in-charge minister K.J. George the state government has approved the modified commuter train scheme.

At a programme organised by the Namma Bengaluru Foundation here on Wednesday, Mr George said that as per the modified plan, commuter train will not connect the nearby cities with Bengaluru city railway station, as proposed earlier, instead it will connect the major metro stations.

“For example, Bengaluru-Mandya commuter train will start from Mandya city and end at Kengeri Metro station. Tumakuru-Bengaluru commuter train will start at Tumakuru city and end at Yeshwantpur metro station. Whitefield- Bengaluru commuter train will start at Whitefiled and end at Baiyappanahalli metro station,” he explained.
