AP High Court orders 25% quota for poor in all private schools

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice M. Satyanarayana Murthy gave the direction

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday directed the state government to implement the 25 per cent quota in all private schools for Class I students for the academic year 2022-23.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice M. Satyanarayana Murthy gave the direction after hearing a petition filed by advocate Thandava Yogesh on Monday.

The petitioner submitted that under Section 12 (1)(C) of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, every private school was supposed to give at least 25 per cent quota of seats in Class I to children from weaker sections and from underprivileged sections of society to promote equality of opportunity in elementary education.

He argued that though the Act had come into force from April 1, 2010, the quota was not being implemented by the state government.
