Amaravati stir: Situation in Mandadam village continues to be tense after clashes

Villagers organise a shutdown, refuse to even give water to policemen

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): A tense situation continued to prevail in Mandadam village in Andhra Pradesh capital region of Amaravati, a day after clashes broke out between the police and women over the issue of dispersing the capital to three regions.

The agitated villagers did not even offer water to the police deployed in the area where clashes broke out. Shopkepers shut down their shops to show their anger.

On Friday, farmers protested against the proposal to have three capitals in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Kurnool. The people of Tulluru village continued their dharna.
Angry that the proposal would affect their interests, the farmers wrote a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind seeking a directive to the state government to stall the process or else allow them to commit suicide.
People of 29 villages in the region have been demanding retion of Amaravati as the sole capital of the state.
