Nowhera Shaik to remain in custody until January 10

Court in Chittoor sent Ms Nowhera Sheik to judicial custody until January 10.

TIRUPATI: Heera group chief executive officer Nowhera Shaik was arrested by the CID police of Tirupati and produced before the 9th additional district judge court in Chittoor on Thursday. The court sent her to judicial custody for a week till January 10.

Nowhera Shaikh is accused of cheating scores of depositors in chain link schemes and other frauds. She was wanted in two cases registered against her in Chittoor district.

According to her lawyer Hussain, the CID police sought police custody, but the court said that it will take up hearing into the plea on Friday.

Nowhera Shaik told mediapersons while leaving the court that she was being victimised and claimed that there was a clear political conspiracy behind the charges. She said she had not committed any crime or cheated anyone.

“I have been operating the business for the last 15 years and never did anything wrong to the depositors. Not even a single complaint was lodged against me by any individual in these 15 years. But ever since I floated a political party for equality and humanity last year, I was targeted by political groups and false charges were levied on me,” she said.

Nowhera Shaikh added, “As I was in jail and all my company accounts are frozen by police, I could not repay the depositors in time. No matter what the consequences are, I will be proved innocent in the court.”

Police sources said the department was confident of securing her conviction and would question her once the court granted police custody.
