Kavitha seeks airport in Nizamabad

She said the land was near the the Hyderabad-Nagpur National Highway at Jakranpalli, about 170 km from the state capital.

Hyderabad: Nizamabad MP K. Kavitha on Wednesday met Union aviation minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju in Delhi and requested him to initiate steps to establish a domestic commercial airport at Jakranpalli in Nizamabad district, a proposal that has been pending for several years.

She said 800 acres of land had been acquired by the previous Congress government but there was no further. She said the land was near the the Hyderabad-Nagpur National Highway at Jakranpalli, about 170 km from the state capital.

She told him that when several domestic airports are being set up by NDA government it was surprising that there was no initiative on part of the Airport Authority of India over the last three and a half years to develop the Nizamabad airport.

She said Nizamabad, Bodhan and Kamareddy were the main business centres in the district having transactions across the country and even with a few Gulf countries. Mr Raju agreed to send a team to obtain a feasibility report.
