Kollam: The decomposed body parts of a man who went missing two years ago were recovered by the police from a septic tank on the compound of the old FCI godown at Chinnakkada on Tuesday. Krishnakumar, 42, of Kulathil Purayidom house, Pullikada here, was murdered by his friend Roy Varghese, 42, alias Komban Roy, and two others after a drunken brawl. He was missing since November 11, 2014 and it had been alleged that he had disappeared after being taken into custody by the Kollam east police in connection with a case registered in September that year.
The body parts were exhumed based on the statements given by Roy who was held from Pullikada on Monday, said City Police Commissioner Satheesh Bino. The accused confessed that he and the two others, Murukan and Ayyappan, had murdered Krishnakumar by hitting and stabbing him after making him drink alcohol at a booze party behind the FCI godown. They were angry at Krishnakumar for teasing women, including Roy’s wife.
The body was disposed of in the septic tank behind the FCI godown. Some of the body parts were later taken out by the accused and buried near the shores of Ashtamudi lake.
A man-missing case was registered by the Kollam east police after his disappearance. They had recently got a tip-off about the murder and are in search of Murukan and Ayyappan who are reportedly hiding in Tamil Nadu.
Rajamma, 71, mother of Krishnakumar, had filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court in 2014 alleging the role of the police in his disappearance. The police had arrested him in connection with a criminal case on September 23 that year, but he was released by the CJM court on October 31. She had alleged that on the day of acquittal, the policemen had threatened him in front of her.
