Hyderabad: Charminar stretch dug up
Hyderabad: As part of the Charminar Pedestrian Project (CPP), GHMC, officials have dug up the entire stretch starting from Laad Bazaar to Charminar to lay uniform Rajasthan marble, and black and pink cobble stones.
But the works at Laad Bazaar road were pending, as the shopkeepers were not permitting the GHMC to take up the remaining works.
GHMC South Zone commissioner Mr Srinivas Reddy said: “The laying of tiles from Gulzar House to Charminar has been completed and currently, works are on from Charminar to Laad Bazaar. This will take a month’s time to be completed. On the opposite end from Charminar to Saldar Mahal, the works have been completed. The stretch from the monument to Mecca Masjid is pending. In that part, the GHMC will soon close tenders for two multi-level parking centres at Charminar division, one will be constructed at Khilwat treasurer’s office and another at Charminar bus depot. The multi-level centre will have five floors and another two floors in the cellar.”
No parking is allowed at this junction, alternative arrangements have been made for vendors’ vehicles. The project consists of a 5.4 km (60 feet) outer ring road and a 2.3 km (40 feet) inner ring road, and cobble pavement on all the four roads, leading to Charminar. The inner and outer ring roads are almost complete.
