Four burnt alive as two lorries catch fire after collision

KAKINADA: The collision of two big trucks caused a fire in which four persons were burnt alive near Dharmavaram. “A sand load lorry hit a seafood container coming from the opposite direction. The cabins of the two vehicles instantly caught fire,” police said.

The incident took place on the National Highway in Prathipadu mandal of Kakinada district Thursday night.

The 10-tyre sand load lorry was on its way to Visakhapatnam. One of the tyres burst and the vehicle hit a divider and then rammed into the seafood container, a 22-tyre vehicle. The Prathipadu police identified the bodies of three victims. A fourth person is yet to be traced, police said.

Police rushed to the spot and fire tenders put out the fire. The deceased were Vinod Kumar Yadav (27) of Machhlishahr, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, who drove the container to a Bhimavaram-based seafood company from an Anakapalli cold storage; helper of the container K Peddiraju (45); Jannu Siva Naga Malleswara Rao (40) alias Srinu of Penumaka village in Guntur district.

Police suspect rash driving by the sand lorry driver caused the mishap.
