AP advocates meet Governor, seek help to rescind transfer of two HC judges

Vijayawada: Advocates of Andhra Pradesh met Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan on Friday seeking his intervention in stopping transfer from AP of two High Court judges – Battu Devanand and D. Ramesh.

Representatives of AP Advocates Joint Action Committee (AJAC) submitted to Governor a representation saying the SC Collegium may have recommended transfer of the two judges taking into consideration contention of the state government.

The AJAC maintained that the two judges had been rendering justice to people in several contempt of court cases filed against government officials, who had wilfully disobeyed orders of the High Court in certain cases.

The committee members contended that independence of judiciary will be affected if the fearless actions of the two judges result in their proposed transfer from Andhra Pradesh.

The advocates further felt if the transfer is allowed to go through, there will be fear among other judges, which could impact their ability to take decisions in a fearless manner for upholding justice at large.
