Anganwadi centres in Bhadradri-Kothagudem to get nutrient gardens

Kothagudem: The concept of raising ‘nutrient gardens’ in Anganwadis gets going in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district. The government wants to serve nutritious food to children in schools’ mid-day meal programme as well as at anganwadi centres.

Nutrition specialists say green vegetables are a source of vital nutrition and they should be added in the menus for mid-day meals and in food being supplied to kids and pregnant women in anganwadi centres.

Taking note, the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district collector D Anudeep said the list of anganwadi centres that did not have water facilities would be sent to the government immediately for suitable follow-up action. “Children of 3 to 5 years are facing anemia problems. Serving them millet food is of great help”

“We identified 1,079 Anganwadi centres located in the mandals of Dammapet, Tekulapalli, Aswaraopet, Burgampahad, Dummugudem and Paloncha to implement the programme of serving millet food to 582 pregnant women, 4000 new-born mothers and 14,667 children aged between 3 and 6 years.”

He said the government is also planning to raise nutrient gardens in the premises of anganwadi centres to serve nutrient food to pregnant mothers and kids. “These mothers will be given the greens raised in the respective Anganwadi centre.”
