Head constable’s stabbing: Cops shoot, arrest accused
Bengaluru: R.T. Nagar police have shot at and arrested a habitual offender who had stabbed a head constable in a bid to escape on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as Mardhan Khan (29), a resident of Chamundinagar. He was shot on both legs by the R.T. Nagar police inspector Mithun Shilpi after he tried to assault the cops again at the time of arrest on Monday morning.
The accused assaulted two policemen Shridharmurthy and Muthappa with a knife and stones following which the R.T. Nagar PI opened fire on his both legs to bring the situation under control.
"Khan was arrested on Sunday night. On Monday morning, he was taken to the place where he had hidden the knife which he had used to stab head constable Nagaraj. The accused, in a bid to escape, took the knife he had hidden and assaulted the two cops. He also took stones and pelted at the policemen prompting the PI to open fire," the police said.
The accused on Saturday noon had stabbed the RT Nagar head constable Nagaraj when the cop was taking him to the police station for creating nuisance in Chamundinagar.
The RT Nagar police had registered a case in this regard. The police said that Khan was involved in four cases in R.T. Nagar and Hebbal area. Three days prior to the attack on the policeman, Khan had also attacked his brother-in-law over a trivial issue. Khan in order to create fear in the area was troubling locals and had also created fear in them," the police said.
