DMK chief Mk Stalin tours worst-hit Cuddalore
CUDDALORE: Quickly responding to the human predicament in Cuddalore, one of the worst-hit districts by the recent rains, the DMK president M K Stalin on Monday visited several inundated pockets in the coastal town and motivated his party cadre to organise relief activities for them.
Mr. Stalin went around the flooded parts of Cuddalore and consoled the affected people. He directed his party care to reach out to them with relief assistance.
The DMK party-men should fan out to all the rain-hit pockets throughout Tamil Nadu and see what best they could do to help the people, Stailin urged.
Mr. Stalin said the State government should undertake relief and rehabilitation activities on a war footing immediately. The precautionary steps taken by the government, anticipating the rains, have not been adequate, Stalin said and pointed out that the local bodies also, without elected representatives, were in shambles and unable to respond to the difficult situation after the heavy rains.
Hundreds of houses have been marooned, Stalin said, adding, in Cuddalore alone over 3,000 houses "are floating in water". In Tiruvarur district, 1,000 acres of paddy crop have been submerged and there was a threat of contagious diseases spreading there, the DMK leader said.
If the government's "apathy" continued, there could be a repeat of the 2015 great floods that Chennai witnessed, Stalin underscored.
