4 killed in car-truck collision near Sathyamangalam

The impact of the collision was so intense and sudden that Selvam, his wife and their girl child were killed on the spot.

ERODE: In a gruesome road mishap, four persons including a special task force (STF) sub-inspector were crushed to death when the car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck on the Bannari highway near Sathyamangalam in Erode district on Monday.

Police said the sub-inspector, Selvam, 41, hailing from Chidambaram taluk and working at the STF camp near Sathyamangalam forest, had left in his car with his family members, wife Devipriya, 38, and a one-year-old daughter Jananisri, along with his friend Murugesan, 40, to make some domestic purchases for the family.

After completing their purchase, the car driven by Selvam was returning with his family members and friend to the camp in the evening when it collided with a truck laden with corn from Mysuru and proceeding towards Kangayam.

The impact of the collision was so intense and sudden that Selvam, his wife and their girl child were killed on the spot. On information, Sathyamangalam rushed to the spot and pulled out a critically injured Murugesan, but the latter died on way to the hospital. Police are on the lookout for the truck driver.
