Telangana government harps on Gough road as Army shut many others
Hyderbad: Residents of North Eastern colonies in Secunderabad Cantonment Board are unhappy with the TRS government for not putting up a strong fight on behalf of 15 lakh citizens affected by the roads closure and are accusing it of pleading the Centre to not close the Gough road. “It is out of disappointment and anger that citizens, who comprise more than one-sixth of the city population residing in the three worst affected GHMC circles of Alwal, Kapra and Malkajgiri are forced to ask the state government why it is stuck up on one road rather than demanding the reopening of all roads,” said B. Rajeshwar Rao, president of Feder-ation of North Eastern Colo-nies of Secunderabad.
In case New Delhi ignores Telangana’s request, taking legal recourse to restore 15 closed roads to its rightful users is the best option, he felt. Meanwhile, C.S. Chandra-shekar, general secretary of the association said that the court gave directions to close only five roads, but Army officials have imposed restrictions on more than 15 roads,” residents said. Mr Chandrashekar also said that alternative proposals for two roads would not address the entire issue as commuters heading to Shamirpet or city outskirts from areas like Malkajgiri, AS Rao Nagar and Sainikpuri have to travel long distances.
