Mudragada Padmanabham: Kapus not happy with quota

Mudragada Padmanabham on Saturday said that the reservation for five per cent for the Kapu community is not sufficient.

Kakinada: Senior Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham on Saturday said that the reservation for five per cent for the Kapu community is not sufficient and it should be doubled in proportion to the population of Kapus. He convened a meeting with Kapu JAC on Saturday in the aftermath of resolution passed by the state Cabinet.

Later, he told the reporters at Kirlampudi that it is responsibility of the state government to ensure that the Kapus get included in the ninth schedule of reservations in Central government job reservations. While welcoming the reservations, Mr Mudragada said that it was a result of long struggle of the Kapus and should not be overlooked as a favour bestowed on them.

He said that they will wait for another five months and wage another series of agitation against the government in case they will not double the quota. “The Kapu population is more than one crore in the state. But the official survey recorded that the population is only 46 lakh. Reservations for the Kapus should be doubled up. A mere five per cent is not enough,” Mr Mudragada said. Mr Mudragada dismissed the charge that YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was behind agitation of the Kapus. ''You (Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu) know very well about me. Everyone in the state knows my commitment and sincerity. You have made promise of inclusion of the Kapus in BC reservation list. We only asked to implement the same," Mr Mudragada said.
