Bhatti seeks probe into Dalit youth's suicide

Hyderabad: Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka held Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao responsible for the suicide of Ramakanth, a youth from the Dalit community in Adilabad district on Thursday.

Displaying a suicide note written by Ramakanth, where he claimed the denial of Dalit Bandhu to him as a motive, Bhatti said the government had allotted Rs 17,500 crore in the State Budget for the Dalit Bandhu scheme but spent barely Rs 300 crore on it.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, Bhatti said, “As the Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao said that every Dalit community family in the state would get the benefits under the Dalit Bandhu, several families had pin hopes on it. When no one got it, they went into a depression.”

The senior Congress leader demanded that the Chief to order an inquiry into the suicide and do justice to the bereaved family.

He alleged that the BRS government pushed Dalit families into a 'dream world' by making hollow promises to them. “The CM was least bothered about the welfare and well-being of Dalits, BCs, Adivasis and religious minorities who constituted 92 per cent of the total population,” he said.

Chandrashekhar Rao dashed all the hopes of Dalits by not keeping even a single promise made to them. “Chandrashekhar Rao had also failed to keep the promise of making a Dalit as the first Chief Minister of a newly formed state, " he pointed out.
