Convicted MP BJP MLA disqualified
Bhopal: BJP legislator of Madhya Pradesh, Prallhad Lodhi, who has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in an assault case by a local court in the state, was on Saturday disqualified as member of the House.
State Assembly secretariat here issued a notification in the evening robbing his membership of the House following the development, as per a recent verdict of Supreme Court in this regard.
Earlier in the day, the Assembly secretariat sought a copy of court verdict convicting the MLA from Pawai in Panna district along with ten others of assaulting a local tehsildar at Raipura in Satna district in 2014 and sentencing them to two years’ imprisonment in the case.
While declaring a particular section of people’s Representative Act unconstitutional, a division bench of Supreme Court has earlier ordered to disqualify an elected representative the moment he or she was sentenced to at least two years of imprisonment after being convicted in a case.
A special court in MP on Thursday sentenced the BJP MLA and ten others to two years imprisonment after convicting them of assaulting Raipura tehsidar R.K. Verma for allegedly for seizing a sand-laden truck in Satna district on August 28, 2014.
The court, however, has granted him one month’s time to challenge its verdict in the high court.
With this, BJP’s strength in MP Assembly has come down to 107.
