Vijayawada: Maternity ward work incomplete
Vijayawada: Work on the 30-bed temporary maternity ward at the Old GGH sanctioned by the Krishna district administration is likely to get delayed. Hospital officials are struggling to complete the task and are searching for donors for the 30 beds.
The district administration had sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for the temporary ward, and cleared a proposal to construct a permanence one at the cost of Rs 180 crore. Presently, two separate contractors are working on the two wards, and supervisors of APSMIDC say that the progress is satisfactory and work will be completed soon.
The temporary ward was proposed after a pregnant woman fell to the floor from the bed she was sharing with other women and died. Acute shortage of beds led to the situation.
The incident led to an uproar, forcing district collector B. Lakshmikantham to announced the temporary ward and sanction Rs 20 lakh. The collector had made it clear that work on this ward should be completed on or before October 31.
The tender process followed and work allotted. Two contractors were allotted the work for the structure.
On Friday, the ward still needed to be painted and work like sealing, electrical wiring, plumbing and the inner infrastructure along with the sanitation, external infrastructure and finishing was pending. It appears that the work will take some more days.
