Tough task for new Vizag Rural SP to deal with LWE

The IPS officer has taken good steps to wean off the tribal youth from the Maoist influence in Paderu area.

VISAKHAPATNAM: An officer of the 2011 batch of IPS, Babujee Attada, took charge as Superintendent of Police (Visakha Rural) in Vizag city on Friday. He succeeded Rahul Dev Sharma following a reshuffle in the IPS circle a few days back.

Tech-savvy IPS officer Babujee Attada said that his top priority was to take more steps for better policing to ensure good results and appealed to the people to extend all support in efforts to implement people-friendly policing. Prior to the new post, he worked as Superintendent of Police in Kadapa.

Sources said that Mr Babujee Attada would be facing the tough task of dealing with left wing extremism (LWE) in Vizag Agency as the Maoists had recently displayed their presence by gunning down Araku MLA Kidari Saveswara Rao and former legislator of Araku Siveri Soma near Livitiput in Vizag Agency.

The young IPS officer earlier served as assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Paderu and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Narsipatnam in Vizag Agency. He hails from a remote village called Kasipuram of Santhabommali mandal in Srikakulam district. He is a B.Tech graduate in Computer Science and worked as a software engineer in the USA before joining the police force. On the Maoist problem and flourishing ganja cultivation and smuggling trade in Vizag Agency, he said he had an understanding of the issue since he had worked as ASP and OSD in Vizag region.

“With the support of the people, we will chalk out new strategies to deal with left wing extremism and the green drug smuggling,” he said. “I have my own style of working for better results, but then it is also true that the scenario cannot change overnight,” he added.
