NSS Karayogam office found vandalised in capital

The BJP and NSS alleged that it was an act of the CPM in connection with the Sabarimala issue.

Thiruvananthapuram: An NSS Karayogam building at Melamcode near Nemom here was vandalised by an unidentified gang which also placed a a wreath bearing the name of NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair.

The BJP and NSS alleged that it was an act of the CPM in connection with the Sabarimala issue.

The glass panel of a statue of social reformer Chattampi Swamikal on the front portion of the NSS Karayogam building was found damaged by pelting stones while the wreath was placed nearby. It happened during the intervening hours of Thursday and Friday, said local sources. It, however, came to their notice on Friday morning.

Police sources said some suspicious movements were found in nearby roads by around 1 p.m. on examining some of the CCTV cameras of nearby locations and efforts were on to identify and trace them. Though a person with a car was spotted in the vicinity during the wee hours, it was found to be a Technopark employee having no links with the incident.

The NSS Karayogam office-bearers alleged that the CPM was behind the incident. They alleged that Namajapa procession and meetings were organised opposing Sabarimala women entry. This could have provoked the CPM cadres to attack the office, the said.

Veteran BJP leader O. Rajagopal, MLA, who visited the spot, also alleged that the incident has connections with those who are opposed to NSS’s stand on the entry of young women in Sabarimala.
