Hyderabad: Planters set up at Hitex Road defaced
Hyderabad: Planters set up along Hitex Road were found damaged, robbing the road of look. The Cheriyal mask-shaped pots and planters were disfigured.
These were donated by various companies as part of the corporate social responsibility initiative and were put up during Global Entrepreneurship Summit-2017, an year ago.
Officials attributed the disfigurement to vandalism by some people. A GHMC official said, "Vandals do not respect the property and this has become a big concern after the theft of plants last year. The daily watering of carpet grass spills water on the pots leading to deterioration of the paint. We have asked the contracting agency to beautify the pots again at no cost."
Some of the planters were shifted for repainting while touch-ups were given to the remaining ones. But the touch-ups are not in sync with the original colour, thereby giving a patchy look. An official said, “About 20 painters are working on 250 planters, each planter costing about Rs. 6,000.”
Meanwhile more than 50 planters stolen last year have not recovered. Officials said that, since it was handled by multiple persons, recovery has become difficult. The existing planters have been fixed to the ground.
