Hyderabad: Maker Faire from November 9

Maker Faire founder Dale Dougherty will be the keynote speaker.

Hyderabad: The state government is attempting to create an environment that nurtures the maker spirit. As part of this, Hyderabad is all set to host Maker Faire from November 9-11 at Hitex. The event was started in 2006 to encourage people working in hardware and prototyping. Maker Faire founder Dale Dougherty will be the keynote speaker.

From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these "makers" to show hobbies, experiments, projects. Sonam Wangchuk (the real Phushuk Wangdu of the movie 3 Idiots) and Niti Aayog Atal Innovation Mission head Ramanathan Ramanan and homegrown Chintakindi Mallesham will be key speakers.

IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan said, "The Hyderabad edition of Maker Faire is the largest in India. This is the first time the large version of Maker Faire is happening in India at Hyderabad.”

The event will feature over 200 makers, artists, and entrepreneurs from across the country with 20,000 participants.

The debut Maker Faire Hyderabad will have three different tracks Play, Passion and Purpose where even kids can participate. Schools can register for the event and take children to the faire Mr Ranjan said.

“The 3-day event is an attempt to make Hyderabad the hub for maker movement and the vision is to see Maker Faire a community driven event in next 4-5 years" said Mr Sujai Karampuri, CEO of T-works which is co-ordinating the event.

Local artisans are invited to showcase too.
