Pondicherry CM visits rain affected areas
Puducherry: Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy visited some of the rain-affected areas on Thursday. The Chief Minister’s visit follows the havoc wreaked by continuous rain for the last three days, where several parts of Puducherry were severely affected as the northeast monsoon intensified.
The Chief Minister visited Paavanar Nagar, Boomiyanpet, Gangaiamman Koil Street - Pillaithottam, Krishna Nagar and Ezhil Nagar. PWD minister A. Namassivayam, agriculture minister R. Kamalakannan, transport minister MOHF Shajahan and top officials accompanied him.
Rain-affected people told him that they are yet to get free rice, sugar or kerosene. Mr Narayaansamy assured the distribution of rice shortly and said that the government will not be able to distribute kerosene as there is no supply from the Centre. Citing the power outage these days, people requested the Chief Minister to ensure at least one litre of kerosene to which the Chief Minister said that he will ask the officials to see whether there is any possibility.
Later, Narayanasamy told reporters that all departments were alerted and 16 teams constituted with officials to meet any situation. A review meeting of the preparedness was also conducted, he added and said if necessary the Coast Guard would also work along with the official team.
