Mid-Manair Project work to end in 2 months
Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Thursday said that Mid-Manair dam was nearing completion and will be dedicated to the nation within two months. The project was launched in 1993 but was not completed by successive governments.
Mr Harish Rao said that after the TRS came to power in 2014, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid special focus on the Mid-Manair Project by allocating Rs 461 crore in three years, while previous governments had together sanctioned Rs 106 crore in two decades.
“The Mid-Manair project stands as a classic example to show how irrigation projects in Telangana state were neglected by successive governments in undivided AP. Though it was sanctioned by late Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao in 1993, the governments led by the Congress and the TD could not prepare even project report till 2006,” Mr Harish Rao told the Assembly.
In 2006, the YSR government floated tenders for the construction of the project under the Jalayagnam scheme. For eight years, till 2014, the Congress governments sanctioned only '106 crore,” Mr Harish Rao said.
He said the delay in taking up works by previous government resulted in steep escalation of project cost in the form of land acquisition.
“We had to spend over Rs 1,200 crore for resettlement and rehabilitation. The land prices went up manifold since 1993. The previous government had failed to even acquire land for the project,” he said.
