Telangana and Andhra Pradesh spar over sharing old files

After bifurcation, control of the record office is with the Telangana government.

Hyderabad: The governments of AP and TS continue to spar over sharing of files between the them, even after 2.5 years of bifurcation. Over 30 lakh files, belonging to various departments of undivided AP, had been stored at the Central Records office, located in the North H block of the Secretariat. After bifurcation, control of the record office is with the TS government.

After bifurcation the “disposal” files (task completed files) were stored in the records office. Some of these files are related to either TS or AP, while others concern matters related to both the states. It was agreed that the two states will share the files related to their respective state. As far as files related to both states were concerned, one state will get the original files while the other would have to do with scanned copies.

The officials said sometimes, the departments have to refer the old files and some files are need in court cases. A senior AP official said that they are facing problem in getting old files since that the records office in under the control of the TS government.

Recently, the TS government handed over an old file to the AP government so that it could refer to a court case, but only after repeated attempts by the neighbouring state.
