Ready to give steel flyover to Centre: KJ George
BENGALURU: With the National Green Tribunal seeking a detailed project report on the controversial steel flyover, Bengaluru development Minister K.J. George on Wednesday said that his government is ready to give all details sought by the court, while offering to hand over the project to the central government "if they agree to complete the project as per the DPR within Rs 1350 cr."
"We have maintained transparency and have not hidden any information relating to the steel project. There are few people who are spreading misinformation about the project. We will provide all details the court sought," Mr. George told the media.
Stressing that the steel flyover was a project proposed by the BJP government, Mr George said "They couldn't take up the project. As we have taken up the project, the BJP party is jealous and is opposing its own project now."
Commenting on the cost escalation of the steel bridge from Rs 1791 cr from Rs 1350 cr., he said "I will convince the CM to hand over the project to central government if they agree to complete the project as per the DPR within Rs 1350 cr. "
Cabinet is entitled to give permission to escalate the cost of projects by up to 20 per cent and a 14 per cent increase in the cost of this project was well within its rights.
He further added that steel flyover is not the only project which the government is expecting to reduce the traffic density, Mr George said "We are exploring all options to reduce the traffic density which include the suburban train, development of Peripheral ring road, building 120 km elevated corridor and exploring alternative roads to KIAL."
