Geeta's parents' leave for Delhi for DNA test

Many thought that her arrival in India might finally end the search for her family.

Khammam: Jujjula Krishnaiah and Gopamma, the couple from Padamata Narasapuram under Julurpad mandal who claimed that Geeta is their daughter, have left for New Delhi for a DNA test.

The story of Geeta, the speech-impaired Indian girl struck in Pakistan for 14 years came to limelight after the release of the film starring Salman Khan, Bajrangi Bhiajan. Her case was spearheaded by Pakistan activist Ansar Burney.

Many thought that her arrival in India might finally end the search for her family. Geeta reached Delhi in the third week of October in 2015. Many couples claimed that Geeta was their daughter. As she is unable to speak, her real name is unknown and she was named Geeta by Biliquis Edhi, one of the foun-ders of Edhi Founda-tion, a well-known social welfare organisation in Pakistan.
Social activists conducted DNA tests on the couple who came forward claiming Geeta as their daughter. But, the tests disproved any biological connection. Geeta is 23 years old now and she was just 11 when spotted by Pakistan Rangers in Lahore after she strayed across the border abroad the Samjahauta Express train in 2003.
Jujjula Krishnaiah and Gopamma too claimed Geeta as their daughter.
It is a fact that their fourth daughter went missing in Guntur 11 years back while attending Suvartha Sabhalu, a meeting of a Christian organisation in Guntur. The couple came forward to undergo a DNA test. But, they are unable to go to Delhi on their own because of poor financial conditions.
A voluntary organisation, Peoples’ Parivar from Bhopal came forward to take them to Delhi to find out whether Geeta is their biological daughter.
