KCR to Launch Breakfast Scheme on Oct. 6, Advances Sari, Sports Kit Distributions

The scheme was planned as a Dasara Gift' on October 24

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on October 6 will launch the CM's Breakfast Scheme for schoolchildren of Classes 1 to 10 at government schools, from a government school in Rangareddy district, officials said.

The scheme was planned as a ‘Dasara Gift’ on October 24, but is being implemented earlier in anticipation of the model code of conduct, which is likely in the second week of October, for the Assembly elections.

Along similar lines, distribution of Bathukamma saris and sports kits to youths was also advanced, with district collectors directed to complete the exercise by October 14.

On Rao’s instructions, Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari convened an emergency teleconference with collectors late on Tuesday to stipulate advanced deadlines for the breakfast scheme, Bathukamma saris and sports kits. Secretaries, commissioners and higher officials of departments concerned attended the meeting.

Kumari, directing arrangements for the CM’s Breakfast Scheme, said ministers, MLAs and other elected representatives would launch the scheme in their respective jurisdictions.

The government has supplied 85 lakh Bathukamma saris and 18,000 sports kits for youths to districts for distribution. Each sports kit will comprise a T-shirt and four sports equipment.

The CM's Breakfast Scheme, which was budgeted at Rs 400 crore annually to benefit over 30 lakh students in 43,000 government schools across Telangana state, aims to provide nutritious food for students along with quality learning, officials said.
