IRIA marks Gandhi Jayanti with tree plantation

Vishnu called upon people to plant trees for protecting the environment for present and future generations

VIJAYAWADA: State Planning Commission vice chairman and MLA Malladi Vishnu launched a tree plantation drive on premises of Sarvodaya Trust in Vijayawada on Sunday to mark the 153rd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi organised by Andhra Pradesh chapter of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA).

Speaking on the occasion, Vishnu called upon people to plant trees for protecting the environment for present and future generations. Paying floral tributes to the statue of Gandhi, the MLA recalled the association of Mahatma with Vijayawada during the Indian freedom struggle. He distributed saplings to people present on the occasion.

The State Planning Commission vice chairman said it is the responsibility of everyone to plant and grow at least one tree to protect the environment. He wanted children to be sensitised and encouraged to plant trees right from their childhood.

Vishnu lauded the initiative taken by Vijayawada chapter of IRIA to plant trees as part of its social responsibility.

Indian Radiological and Imaging Association Vijayawada chapter president Dr. Rajakumar, ICRI chairman Dr. V.N. Vara Prasad, IRIA central council member Dr. T Rajeswara Rao, programme in-charge Dr. G.V. Mohan Prasad and radiologists of Vijayawada participated in the programme.
