Sterlite will resume after NGT clearance: Vedanta boss
Chennai: Tamil Nadu government swears it would not permit Sterlite to resume operations in Thoothukudi come what may and the opposition parties have stepped up campaign to ensure the copper plant stays shut, but the Vedanta boss Anil Agarwal is confident he would see his factory up and operating pretty soon. “Absolutely. It should be (reopened0 very soon”, Agarwal shot back when a reporter asked him at his media interaction in Delhi on Monday whether Vedanta’s Sterlite plant would reopen in Thoothukudi. “We are going through the NGT (National Green Tribunal) process and once the verdict is completed, that should be applicable to everybody”, said the metal tycoon. “Tuticorin is one of the most beautiful plants producing copper”, said Agarwal and explained how important copper production was for the industrial development in the country. “For 22 years we have been working and people are working there. We have to make sure that people are satisfied and convinced, they are our people”.
