Telangana: More sops for Golla Kurumas
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that 23.8 lakh sheep had been distributed so far to the the Golla-Kuruma communities. This should be a fitting reply to those who had asked him from where the government would procure 80 lakh sheep, he said.
Mr Rao on Monday announced granting 10 acres of land for a Golla Kuruma hostel and Rs 10 crore funds. He said all candidates from the Back-ward Classes community who cannot win direct elections would be accommodated in the Legislative Council.
He made these remarks to a batch of delegates from all over the country, who came to participate in All India Kurumas Conference on Monday. Ministers from Karnataka and Maharashtra called on Mr Rao.
Mr Rao told them that the Yadav community members numbered in crores but India was still importing meat. He said the state had about 40 lakh Yadav community members whose profession is rearing sheep. Yet the state was importing 650 truckloads of meat daily.
He said the idea for sheep distribution when the government tried to find ways to save the Rs 4,500 crore that was spent on importing meat.
