Hyderabad: Despite the crackdown on illegal constructions, some encroachers tried to occupy lake land by taking advantage of government holidays. On Sunday, a few persons were found levelling land belonging to a tank in Survey numbers 52, 53, 54 and 55 at Bandlaguda in the Old City.
Locals objected to the encroachment after which the gang backed off.
Mr Sattar, owner of a hotel. said that they had lodged a complaint with revenue officials last year while encroachers were trying to occupy the land. “At that time, officials took severe action and installed caution boards. On Sunday, a few persons tried to level two acres of land,” he said.
Bandlaguda tahsildar K. Anil Kumar said officials would visit the spot on Monday.
“Usually land grabbers select second Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays to encroach on government land,” he said.
