AP government launches Chandranna Bima for poor workers

The government was providing pension of Rs 1,000 to the elderly and Rs 1,500 for the handicapped through NTR Bharosa, he said.

Tirupati: The government is changing the lives of the poor through technology, said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu after launching the Chandranna Bima Scheme at Tarakarama stadium here on Sunday. The scheme is aimed at benefitting about two crore workers in the unorganised sector. A family will get Rs 5 lakh as insurance if a worker dies in an accident.

Andhra Pradesh is the only state to introduce insurance for the workers in the unorganised sector, Mr Naidu said. He said it was a matter of pride for him to launch this scheme on the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.

While recalling the murder attempt on him by naxals at Alipiri. Mr Naidu said he and his entourage were saved due to the bl-essings of Sri Venkateswaraswamy.

He made a fervent appeal to the people to strive to achieve the aspirations of Mahatma Gandhi. Hestated that his life’s ambition is to work for the uplift of poor people. “This state is my family. I will take the responsibility of each every family in the state, I will be the elder brother for every family,” he assured.

Ministers K. Achannnaidu, P. Narayana, B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, TTD chairman Chadala-wada Krishnamurthy and MLA M. Suguna were also presnt at the programme.

Meanwhile, one of the escort vehicles in the Chief Minister’s convoy lost its route while coming from Tirupati airport to the city. The convoy which started at Tirupati airport at about 11.30 am on Sunday along with Mr Naidu’s car has lost its route and went into another route near Renigunta-Chennai Highway. When the officials noticed an escort vehicle missing, they immediately stopped the convoy near an overbridge and alerted the missing vehicle driver. After a few minutes the vehicle joined the convoy. In the meantime, there was blockage of traffic due to stoppage of the CM’s convoy.
