Five Killed, 2 Injured in Bapatla Road Accident

Vijayawada: Five persons died and two were injured in a fatal road accident in Santhamaguluru police station limits of Bapatla district on Sunday. A speeding lorry rammed an auto-rickshaw on the Kurnool-Guntur state highway near the government Junior College around 4:30am.

The mishap took place at Santhamaguluru village. Police rushed to the spot and took the injured to a hospital. Three persons died on the spot and two more died while under treatment at the Narasaraopet Government Hospital.

The victims were residents of Guntur. Chelimella Kavitha 19, Alavala Mangathayar 19, Palthi Nari 19, Thammishetti Tulsi 16 and Burri Madhavi 35 were the dead. Salikunedi Winner and Paltya Raju Naik were injured and undergoing treatment at the Narasaraopet hospital, police said.

SP Vakul Jindal visited the spot and made preliminary inquiries. The lorry AP 07 TN 4248 was going from Anaparthi in East Godavari district towards Markapuram with a load of idli ravva. It collided with the auto AP 07 TG 1630 that was coming to Guntur with seven passengers after an event at Markapuram, the SP said.

“Two women and a man in the auto-rickshaw were among the dead. Two more women died while undergoing treatment at the area hospital. A woman and a man are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The lorry driver and cleaner ran away from the spot. They will be arrested soon," he added.
