Hyderabad: Scamsters use the Truecaller application to change their details as bank employees and get the banking credentials from gullible people on the pretext of securing their account or by claiming that they would link their bank details with Aadhaar.
People should not trust such applications and should immediately cross check with their banks, said Hyderabad Cyber Crime police.
Mallesh, a resident of Kondapur, said, "I did not think twice after the Truecaller app identified the caller as a bank manager. He said I had been using the debit card frequently after demonetisation. He told me that if I did not upgrade the card immediately, it would be blocked. He then asked for my card number, PIN and OTP. Believing he was a bank official, I gave him all details. It was only when I lost the money that I realised the caller was a fraudster."
