Hyderabad: Pothole-filled Vattepally road torments motorists

Local corporator Shireen Fatima said a plan to lay crumb rubber modified bitumen' on the road, costing Rs 3.5 crore, had been finalised.

Hyderabad: Deep potholes on the Vattepally road has made driving a risky task in the Old City. The road between Engine Bowli and Vattepally Nice Hotel was dug up for laying of drinking water pipelines. The works were completed a year ago but officials have not relaid the road.

Motorists have to make their way on the uneven crater-dotted and potholes filled road where driving is a back breaking exercise.

On any day, thousands of vehicles ply on the road connecting colonies in Vattepally, Mustafanagar, Fatimanagar with the arterial Falaknuma Charminar road.

“It is not a road. It is just a big trench filled path. Driving on the stretch is a nightmarish experience,” said Mr Abdul Mujeeb Khan, an advocate from Vattepally.

According to local residents, the three-kilometre stretch from Engine Bowli to Nice Hotel was dug up about a year and a half ago. “Since then the authorities just did some patch work. Over a period of time, the road surface started eroding, leaving it in a bad state,” said Bangladesh Galli resident Younus Khan.

Asked about the road, a GHMC official blamed the Water Board for the mess.
