Bengaluru: When you are in a bus or an autorickshaw, keep your eyes and ears open, as the city’s public transport will soon have messages promoting the city police’s anti-drug campaign. The police are also using radio jingles to create awareness on the ill-effects of drug abuse.

In fact, Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar’s vehicle was the first in the city to carry the poster, ‘Say No to Drugs’. The stickers have already been put up on all Hoysalas and other police vehicles.

Going forward with the intense campaign, the city police are also visiting colleges and schools. A senior police officer said,

“We are talking to student union members and roping them in to join us in the fight against the use and sale of drugs in nearby areas. Those students who are addicted are also undergoing counselling to help them say no to drugs.”

City Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar said, “Every year, we carried out a poster campaigns. But this is the first year that we have come up with radio jingles, short movies, plays, skits, vehicles posters and wrist bands.” That’s not it. You will soon see short films related to the campaign being screened in theatres.

“We will ask all pubs and bars to put up notices that give details of punishment for drug peddling,” said Joint Commissioner of Police N. Satheesh.
