Kakinada Municipal Corporation starts election process
Kakinada: Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) has started the process of civic body elections as per government instructions. The KMC is now revising the divisions in the city including merging villages, Achutapuram, Teachers Colony and Swamy Nagar and excluding Turangi village. According to KMC officials, seven teams have been deployed for delimitation of the divisions.
Kakinada has 50 divisions at present. But, three villages have been merged into the Corporation in the year 2013. The divisions would be revised according to guidelines, as the Corporation should not exceed more than 50 divisions. Now, the area of the Corporation would be divided into wards as notified by the government, duly taking into the account the natural boundaries and geographical features.
Wherever natural boundaries could not be adopted by survey numbers, TS numbers, important functions or lanes shall be considered as far as possible. According to the guidelines, the variation in population in the wards shall not be more than 10 per cent of the average population of the division and the division of the ward shall commence from the North-East point of the geographical boundary of the Corporation and the wards shall be numbered in striatum in clock-wise direction starting from the North-East point.
The KMC should take consideration of the census 2011 figures for assessing the population. “The delimitation process would be completed within 10 days and preparation of draft proposal by the Corporation by September 7” said KMC Commissioner S. Aleem Basha. He said the teams were thoroughly assessing the door numbers for delimitation process. The Corporation would take public opinion and objections from people from September 8 to 17 and the proposals should be sent to state by September 22.
