Now it is an era of cyber wars, says Rajnath Singh
Hyderabad: Home minister Rajnath Singh advised IPS probationers to keep abreast of cybercrimes, which had increased 2,400 per cent in the last decade. “We know that the First World War was fought in the sky and has on land. In the Second World War, the nuclear bomb was used. Now it is the era of cyber wars,” he said.
Stating that this is the age of cyber wars, Mr Singh cited the example of the impact in India of photographs of incidents that took place in Burma and Thailand and shared on social media.
“Deaths in Thailand due to floods were circulated on social media with misguiding text that led to agitations in parts of India. Similarly, pictures of violence against a particular community in Burma were circulated in India. IPS officers must have knowledge of such mischief and the facts to prevent any adverse impact on the country,” he said
The Union minister was addressing a combined session of 109 IPS probationers of 68 RR batch, including 15 foreign probationers undergoing basic training at the NPA and the 107 other officers attending the in-service training programmes and seminars on “National Security”, “Economic Offences” and “Cyber Crimes”.
While emphasising on professional excellence, Mr Singh said, “Integrity and honesty of the highest standard is needed to set a new benchmark while on duty.”
Advising young officers to maintain unity in diversity in the country, he said, “It is not only for religions. We have varying weather conditions across the country; we have all the religions that exist across the globe. Followers of all faiths feel safe in India. We have 72 sects of Islam in the country which no Islamic country has. There is no discrimination against any community or religion. The responsibility of bridging the gap between the police and the public is on young officers’ shoulders.”
“Eliminate crisis of credibility, reach out to the common man with empathy, sincerity and dedication by taking it as a challenge,” Mr Singh said. He advised the young officers to keep the law and never misuse power. Earlier, Mr Singh was received at the RGIA by NPA director Aruna Bahuguna.
