Two villages in Mulugu demand allotment of liquor shops

Warangal: While several villages are protesting against liquor shops, the residents of Malluru and Vagoddugudem on Thursday passed a resolution unanimously demanding allotment of retail liquor outlets in their villages in Mangapet mandal of Mulugu district.

Five years ago, the members of the ST association from the two villages had approached the court challenging the allotment of retail liquor outlets to the people of other communities as against the reserved quota in Mangapet mandal. They urged the court to allot the shops to their community as per the reservation policy in agency areas. The court issued a stay.

Now, the villagers, both men and women, of Mallur and Vagoddogudem, conducted grama sabha led by their panchayats and passed a resolution demanding that the officials take steps to allot liquor shops to the ST community in their villages and the mandal as per reservations.

They also complained that they had been facing difficulties in purchasing liquor by going to distant places, especially on special occasions and festivals and for some regular consumers.
