GVMC contract workers demand permanent jobs

Visakhapatnam: On the call of the State Municipal Contract Workers Employees Federation, the GVMC contract workers union in association with CITU staged a protest at the Gandhi statue demanding that the state government must promote the outsourcing employees to permanent workers in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the GVMC contract workers union general secretary, U. Raju, said that as promised by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in the elections, municipal contract outsourcing workers must be promoted as permanent workers and equal pay for equal work must be implemented. He said that if the government does not respond to their demands, CITU leaders will stage a siege of the collector's office on August 7 and a march to Vijayawada on August 17. District CITU general secretary R.K.S.V. Kumar and other GVMC contract workers were present.
