Government Wants 5 lakh Houses Built by August End

Vijayawada: Chief secretary to government, Dr. K.S. Jawahar Reddy, on Thursday instructed officials that the five lakh houses being built under Navaratnalu – Pedalandariki Illu flagship housing programme must be completed by the end of this August. By then, these houses must also be fully equipped with all basic amenities, including drinking water and power supply, apart from roads and drainages in the respective housing colonies, he underlined.

Holding a review meeting on progress of various housing schemes, the CS ordered district collectors that wherever house construction and amenities are lagging behind, special measures must be taken on a war footing, so that the houses are distributed to the beneficiaries by the end of this month. He emphasised that AP is the only state that is constructing pucca houses for its beneficiaries.

With regard to Tidco houses being built in urban areas and dwellings being constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin, the chief secretary asked officials of housing department to take appropriate measures to complete these houses on time and deliver them to beneficiaries.

Participating in the review meeting, special principal secretary (Housing) Ajay Jain explained the progress of all housing programmes, including provision of drinking water facilities, electricity, roads, drainage and soak pits in various colonies in the state. He said steps are being taken to complete various works under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

AP State Housing Corporation managing director Lakshmi Sha, joint managing director Y. Siva Prasad and others participated in the meeting.
