Karimnagar: Farmers intensify paddy planting

On Friday afternoon, Karimnagar district received about 51.4 mm of rainfall.

Karimnagar: Heavy rains that continued for the past few days in various part of the undivided Karimnagar district raised fresh hopes among the farming sector.

Farmers are praying for more rain in the coming up days to earn higher returns in this kharif, even though the season is about to end by this month.

On Friday afternoon, Karimnagar district received about 51.4 mm of rainfall. The highest has been recorded in Ellandakunta and Jammikunta mandals with about 117.3mm and 90.5 mm rainfall in the respective mandals and the least was recorded in Gangadhara mandal with 28.5 mm rainfall.

Peddapalli district received about 40.6 mm of rainfall with the highest being recorded in Kalvasrirampur mandal with 63.8 mm of rainfall and the lowest rainfall being recorded in Ramagundam mandal with 25.0 mm. Rajanna Sircilla district received about 39.5 mm of rainfall with the highest being recorded in Chandurthi mandal with 68.2 mm of rainfall and the lowest in Ellanthakunta mandal with just 14.4 mm of rainfall.

And Jagtial district received about 48.77 mm rainfall with highest recorded in Raikal mandal with 79.2 mm of rainfall and the lowest rainfall was recorded in 21.2 mm.

As the soil received sufficient quantities of water with heavy rains at many parts of the erstwhile Karimnagar district, the farmers intensified the agricultural operations.

In Karimnagar district, against the normal area of cultivation of 1,01,604 acres of paddy, this time so far 70,526 acres of land was cultivated with paddy. Whereas, in Peddapalli district, against the normal area of cultivation of 1,08,726 acres of paddy, so far it was cultivated in about 54,000 acres of land.

While in Rajanna Sircilla district against the normal area of cultivation of 62,000 acres of land, paddy so far was cultivated in about 46,000 acres of land and in Jagtial district against the normal area of cultivation of 1,20,000 acres of land, paddy this time was cultivated in about 40,000 acres of land.

The officials of the agricultural department said that though the rains brought cheers on the faces of farmers, there must be rainfall at regular intervals of 15 days for the next one and half months to reap the benefits from the crops they are cultivating. This rain helps the seed to germinate, but for further growth, more rains are needed in the days to come, they observed.

Meanwhile, in Venkampet village of Rajanna Sircilla district, some of the houses collapsed due to heavy rains, the villagers who lost their shelter have urged the TRS working president, K.T. Rama Rao to help them and in Vennampalli village of Kalvasrirampur mandal in Peddapalli district, there was leakage in the tank in the village and it was closed immediately with the initiative taken by the MPTC Devanna along with the villagers.

Many low lying areas and colonies which were formed newly under Karimnagar Municipal corporations were submerged in the water due to heavy rains that were witnessed from the past three days in Karimnagar city.
